My initial thought when you told me that Kala was going to seek alternative treatments rather than traditional treatments was that you had gone too far in your “hippiness.” This post and chatting with you today changed my perspective. The odds of me having something in somebody’s “wanted” list are pretty dang low. When I have something to offer on freecycle I offer it. I’m not a freecycle leech…kind of jumping to conclusions there Art.

The Gmail label systems sounds like a good idea, however you do seem to be a bit of a leech. The point of FreeCycle is not just to have your ears out for freebies and filter out any requests that people have. So please stop beeing a “Free-Cycle-Loader” and also keep an eye out for “wanted” emails as well.

Hi Dana. Yes we would recommend Pacific Yurts. Really we have been pleased with the whole project. It’s done fine in storms so far..I think our peak wind was about 50mph which is quite noisy as the fabric snaps back and forth against the lattice, but it seems quite sturdy. Snow has been no problem at all..it all just slides off. The one thing that I would do differently if I had to do it over would be too look into doing my own insulation. The foil/bubble insulation works great, but I am betting I could do it myself quite a bit cheaper and it was really just big pieces of that taped together. For the options, you can do what we did and get the ones that are crucial to get when its put together (like don’t skimp on extra windows!). And then you can get add-on stuff later on like window awnings. I plan on doing a full review of our Pacific Yurt sometime soon. -john

Hi,
My husband an I are looking into purchasing a yurt, what would you have done differently? Would you recommend pacific yurts? How is it in wind and snow storms? We are from upstate NY so it is basicaaly the same climate as you.
Would there be any cost savings things you would suggest? It seems like there are a milliona additional options which come with a large price tag.
