Kala

To my Friends, family and readership,

I am writing to tell you about the unexpected and challenging events that have happened to us in the last month. As many of you know, Kala (aka Michelle) had been experiencing some digestive health issues during the last couple of years.  In spite of many different approaches to healing the problem it grew  steadily worse. Almost two years ago she went to a western medical doctor, but they did not have any answers for her.

In July of this year, she noticed that her abdomen was swelling. After some time when it did not go away, but was getting larger she went back to the doctors who did an ultrasound and found a large mass inside her (about the size of a cantaloupe!). She was scheduled for surgery to remove it which was performed on October 10th.  The mass turned out to be malignant (cancerous) and she has been diagnosed with Stage 3 Endometrial cancer.

This was of course quite shocking to us and we are still adjusting to the news.  Kala has spent the last few weeks recovering from the surgery (and the side effects of the medications). She is doing much better though still resting most of the time.

We feel very fortunate that we finally know what her health issue is and can deal with it appropriately.  Before surgery, Kala applied for and was accepted into a program run by a local private foundation that provides health care for uninsured people. As a result, all of her hospital and immediate medical bills are paid for. We looked at the hospital bill yesterday and she had racked up an astonishing $48,000 bill in an 8-day hospital stay!

The doctors are of course recommending chemotherapy for treatment.  Although we had never looked closely at chemotherapy/radiation treatments, coming from our health conscious perspectives we had an instinctive aversion to it. Now that we were faced with a very important decision on whether to use it or not ourselves, I started doing some serious research into it.

I won’t go into all of the details of my research, but after much deliberation and meditation, we have decided that this type of treatment would not be suitable for Kala and we are investigating various forms of successful alternative cancer treatments.  If you are interested in what I found in my research I would be happy to share it with you. I’ve been reading quite a bit on the subject and I can very highly recommend the book Cancer: Step Outside the Box which is a very comprehensive and highly rated book on the subject.

kWe have located a Naturopath specialist in Connecticut to work with who has had a lot of success in treating cancer. We choose LIFE and feel  very confident that this situation will have more than a happy ending for us.  Already we can feel the effects that this has had on us spiritually taking us on a journey to a whole new  level of health, happiness and well being! We are very committed to doing whatever it takes for Kala to completely heal.

One challenge that we are facing is the large costs involved in the treatment.  In addition to the costs for the doctor we will need to be paying for an incredible array of supplements and medicines, bloodwork, travel expenses and more.  None of this will be covered by any kind of insurance. We could really use the financial support of our friends and family.

If you would like to support Kala in her treatment, you can donate money using the Paypal button below. You don’t need a Paypal account to donate..if you don’t have a paypal account just look for the little “Don’t have a PayPal account? ” near the bottom after you click the donate button.

You can also send a check payable to  Michelle Neve to  321 Rock Creek Road, Black Mountain, NC 28711. We will be here until November 16th, After that we will be up in New England for 6-8 weeks starting in Mid November so hope to see many of our New England friends and family!
